Choosing the right stove

An accompanying stove is a prerequisite for sauna bathing. It's often included in the barrels sold, and there are usually several options to choose from. A wood-burning stove is the classic stove for a sauna. In more modern forms, these come with a water jacket and steam function. The wood-fired sauna barrel gives a genuine feel and works completely without an electricity connection, but also comes with drawbacks. It takes a bit of work to heat up the sauna, and if you run out of wood, you won't be able to enjoy your sauna.

Proper installation of a refractory chimney is required, as is continuous sweeping of the flue. A spark guard is an inexpensive safety feature that is recommended. An electric heater is easy to handle and requires no work when heating. On the other hand, the unit does not give quite as genuine a feeling. In addition, for obvious reasons, electrical wiring is required for the system to work.
