Maintenance of the sauna

The sauna barrel is made of 100% wood, so don't forget that it is a completely natural material that changes according to the different weather conditions. To get as many years as possible together with your sauna, it needs to be adjusted and maintained over time. Below you will find some help along the way.

Door lock: When you look at the edge of the door, you will see an adjustable latch, here you can use a screwdriver to adjust for the desired tension. Door and window frames: It is desirable that there should be the same amount of frame on both sides of the window or door, however, this may need to be adjusted over time as the wood can expand or contract under the different weather conditions that we have here in Sweden. Depending on how stable the foundation is on which the hot tub stands, the wood can also start to move away from the optimally round shape, then the steel bands around the barrel need to be tightened or adjusted. Also check the foundation on which the sauna stands to prevent future changes.

Sauna barrel steel straps: To adjust or tighten the barrel straps, use a wrench on the nut located on the bottom of the strap. Normally you need to adjust the strap after 6-8 times of use. If cracking occurs in the wood, this is a sure sign that the strap needs tightening. Do not tighten the straps so much that they start to cut into the wood or bend, then immediately release the tension on the straps until they are stretched again. When adjusting the straps on the front part, it is good to have the sauna door open, to prevent the door from jamming or cracking.

Sauna stones: Due to the high temperature differences we have, it can also happen that the stones crack and slice. In our webshop you can buy separate sauna stones if they need to be replaced. Remember to only use stones that are intended for that purpose. To get the maximum heat out, we recommend moving the stones around a bit before starting the heater to create some air pockets between them.

Ventilation: After each sauna session, you should leave the sauna door open for a while after the sauna has cooled down. Doing this will prevent the wood from cracking. It also gives the sauna time to breathe to preserve its wonderfully fresh and natural wood scent.

Surface treatment: If you ordered the "exterior finish" package together with your sauna, the recommendation is to improve the protection during the second year, then every three or five years depending on the location of the sauna and the extent of use. You are always welcome to ask our customer service what color the sauna was originally painted.

Hygiene: Your sauna will give you many years of pleasure if it is cared for properly. If you are a frequent sauna user, you should clean your sauna once a month to remove body oils and soap residue from the benches and walls to prevent bacterial growth and discoloration of the wood. To maintain the wood's lovely appearance and scent, we recommend dedicated cleaning products, but of course other cleaning agents also work well. A more thorough cleaning and inspection of benches, walls and floors should be done once a year.

Pefletti and seat towels: To prevent stains and discoloration on the benches, you should always use pefletti or seat towels in the sauna. This will prevent too much sweat, dirt and dead skin cells from penetrating the wood. The benches will also be easier to clean.
